Green Goals – Procurement

Social value has finally been recognised as an important part of procurement for local authorities and we are receiving increasing numbers of instructions on how to achieve the maximum social value when commissioning goods, works or services while still adhering to the requirements of the Public Contract Regulations 2015 (as amended).

With increasing information in this area, we can advise more specifically on how environmental obligations can be incorporated into local authority procurement exercises.

For example:

  • Whether the authority maximised the potential environmental benefits that can be obtained from the procurement
  • The appropriate weighting to allocate to environmental considerations; and
  • How to fairly evaluate tender submissions which provide environmentally based solutions.

We have advised several local authorities on their social value strategies when conducting their procurement exercises and would be happy to discuss this further to suit the needs of your organisation and depending on where you are on your “green” journey.
