Department for Business and Trade, subsidy to the Post Office Limited (POL) for 2026 to 2029

This is a proposed grant of up to £108m to support the continue delivery of services across the UK for the three financial years from 2026/27 to 2028/29. The amount of £70m will be provided in the first financial year and smaller awards will be provided in subsequent years.

Our key takeaways from the Subsidy Advice Unit (SAU) report are:

• Assessments should make use of evidence regarding the financial position and incentives in relation to the branches regarded as uncommercial, this could include financial records and forecasts. This will support any conclusions on additionality.
• Assessments should explain in detail how the forecasts that support the subsidy’s calculation were estimated and scrutinised.
