Sharpe Pritchard LLP, a leader in green legal practices and one of the UK’s top public law firms, is proud to announce its shortlisting as a finalist for the Sustainability Award at the upcoming LexisNexis Legal Awards 2025.
This recognition underscores the firm’s commitment to environmental stewardship and its proactive approach to integrating sustainability into all facets of its operations as it aims to achieve net zero.
Sharpe Pritchard has long been at the forefront of sustainable legal practice, beginning with the launch of its ‘green goals’ campaign in 2022.
The firm’s comprehensive strategy focuses on advocacy, internal initiatives, collaboration, and education to drive meaningful change both internally and across the legal industry.
Internally, Sharpe Pritchard has achieved net-zero emissions for scopes 1 and 2, utilising 100 per cent renewable electricity and implementing significant sustainability measures such as:
- Comprehensive recycling and energy-efficient practices in all offices.
- A reforestation partnership through PrintReleaf, coupled with the use of recycled paper.
- Eco-friendly travel initiatives and annual supply chain audits to ensure sustainable practices.
It is also working to reduce its scope 3 emissions, by educating the rest of the legal sector.
Last year it held a landmark Net Zero Supplier Summit in the heart of London, which encouraged a wide range of organisations – including business owners, senior leaders, barristers’ chambers, and suppliers in the legal sector – to review their approach to sustainable practices.
It is proud of its commitment to outreach and advocacy for net zero, which is helping others start their journey towards better approaches.
The firm also plays a crucial role in some of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects, particularly in enhancing the nation’s clean water supply, which aligns with strict sustainability standards.
“Our strategy goes beyond mere compliance with environmental standards – it’s about setting a benchmark for our industry,” said Steve Gummer, Head of Net Zero at Sharpe Pritchard. ”
“This nomination is a testament to our unwavering commitment to not only enhancing our firm’s sustainability but also empowering our clients, the wider legal community and the nation to achieve their environmental goals.”
Sharpe Pritchard’s efforts have been consistently recognised in the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners guides, with the firm being featured in the Legal 500’s Green Guide for several years.
Looking ahead, the firm is committed to continuing its partnership with Green Mark and has joined the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Net-Zero Standard, which will guide its future sustainability efforts in accordance with the Paris Agreement.
The Lexis Nexis awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on March 13, 2025, at the Park Plaza London Riverbank, where industry leaders will gather to celebrate outstanding achievements within the legal sector.
