Sharpe Pritchard Partner shortlisted for Environmental/Sustainability: Champion of the Year at 2025 Legal 500 ESG Awards

Sharpe Pritchard, a leader in legal advocacy for public sector sustainability, is celebrating the success of Steve Gummer, who has been shortlisted for the Environmental/Sustainability: Champion of the Year at the upcoming Legal 500 ESG Awards.

After a successful inaugural year, these awards – hosted by one of the world’s leading legal directories – have gained significant momentum, thanks to robust support from sponsors and attendees.

This prestigious nomination – chosen following in-depth independent research by the judges – recognises Steve’s unwavering commitment to environmental excellence and sustainable practices within the legal sector.

Steve’s work highlights his dedication to integrating sustainability into both Sharpe Pritchard’s operations and the services the firm delivers to clients.

He has helped to found and lead the firm’s innovative ‘Green Goals’ campaign and ‘Green Steve’s’ series, which provide specialised support and consultancy to public bodies.

The firm has also introduced a complimentary feasibility support package for local authorities working on pioneering projects in the energy sector.

Beyond this, Steve and the firm’s influence extends to major UK infrastructure projects, where Sharpe Pritchard has been instrumental in helping attain sustainability goals.

Steve Gummer, Head of Net Zero at Sharpe Pritchard, said: “This shortlisting at the ESG Awards is a testament to our industry-leading efforts, which have already been recognised in the prestigious Legal 500 guide.

“Whilst I have been named as a finalist, this is a team effort, involving our leading experts, suppliers and a host of other parties to help us meet our strict goals and drive sustainability within our industry and beyond.”

Internally, and under Steve’s guidance, Sharpe Pritchard leads by example, having eliminated all scope 1 and 2 emissions through the adoption of 100 per cent renewable electricity.

The firm has achieved a carbon footprint of just 14 tCO2e per year – significantly below the national average for the legal sector.

The award ceremony is scheduled for 25th March 2025 at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, London, where Steve and his colleagues at Sharpe Pritchard look forward to celebrating his remarkable achievement with peers and industry leaders.

This latest shortlisting comes following the firm’s recognition at the Lexis Nexis Legal Awards 2025, where the firm is also a finalist for the Award for Sustainability following its action on climate change, net zero and its wider environmental goals and work.
