Sharpe Pritchard is celebrating its 40th place ranking in the latest Social Mobility Foundation’s prestigious Social Mobility Employer Index.
This marks a significant leap from 51st place last year and a notable improvement from the firm’s first year in the index when it did not make the top 75.
The Social Mobility Employer Index is the leading authority on employer-led social mobility, recognising organisations taking bold steps to create a more equitable workplace.
The Index assesses employers on their efforts to improve access, progression, and belonging for individuals from all backgrounds – ensuring that talent and potential are recognised over privilege.
Sharpe Pritchard’s progress in the rankings reflects the hard work and dedication of the firm’s HR team, who have consistently refined and enhanced their strategies over the past three years.
In the last 12 months, the firm has made significant strides in its commitment to social mobility, demonstrating that this remains a key strategic goal within Sharpe Pritchard’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategy.
“Our continued improvement in the Social Mobility Employer Index is a testament to our work to make meaningful changes,” said Nadia Biles Davies, Chief Operating Officer.
“It’s not just about climbing the rankings. It’s about ensuring that we create genuine pathways for people from diverse backgrounds to thrive in the legal profession.
“This aligns perfectly with our core values and our strategic goal of becoming an employer of choice.”
Sharpe Pritchard has been praised for its innovative approach to social mobility, including its diverse routes to employment and outreach programmes.
These initiatives include covering travel expenses for prospective staff and creating entry points through internships, outreach to young people, and the firm’s fully funded 32-month graduate solicitor apprenticeship programme.
Additionally, the firm holds an annual insight evening for potential applicants, offering a gateway into legal careers for individuals from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
The firm’s social mobility initiatives extend to partnerships with key organisations like PRIME, The Sutton Trust, and Charity Partner Reach Out to Kids (ROK), all of which provide vital work experience opportunities to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Sharpe Pritchard also works closely with AllAboutLaw, leveraging their expertise to attract trainee applicants from lower socio-economic groups.
“Sharpe Pritchard’s focus on social mobility is not only a reflection of its values but also a crucial factor in its ability to attract and retain the best talent,” added Nadia.
“By providing opportunities for those from underrepresented backgrounds, our firm continues to build its reputation as a progressive and forward-thinking employer.
