Ambitious £5bn climate plan approved by WECA regional leaders – BBC News

An example of Local authority green action is illustrated in this article. West of England Combined Authority (WECA) plan to replace their climate change plan with a more ambitious one, as they were not on track to meet their 2030 climate change goal of achieving net zero. Their projections will mean reducing CO2 emissions each year by 10%.  They have included the following strategies to help achieve this.:

  • Retrofitting 250,000 homes over 8 years to meet carbon neutral ambitions;
  • 40% less car mileage by 2030;
  • Reverse the decline of wildlife and increase its abundance (based on from 2020 numbers) by 2030 by 30%;
  • Explore tidal energy and hydrogen power schemes.

It is always important to keep macro level targets under review.
