Job Title: Trainee

Main Responsibilities

Client Management

  • Carry out client work as allocated by partners and other fee earners, under their supervision
  • Ensure that all client work is progressed expeditiously
  • At all times to exercise high standards of client care in a professional and pleasant manner
  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of all of the firm’s and client documentation and information

Practice Development

  • Promote the firm’s business service offerings by proactively engaging in any relevant sales and marketing activity including holding key events, writing articles, marketing, seminars, conferences, trade fairs exhibitions and involvement in tenders
  • Undertaking secondments to work at clients’ premises if so required

Professional Standards

  • Understand, operate and ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, systems and controls to ensure the smooth, safe and effective running of the practice
  • Ensure good working relationships with external institutions and organisations
  • Comply with the Solicitors Accounts Rules and the Rules on the Professional Conduct of Solicitors
  • Adhere to the terms of the training contract
  • Ensure that Sharpe Pritchard adheres to and remains compliant with all statutory, regulatory and legal requirements to operate a safe working environment
  • Be familiar with, adhere to and promote the firm’s equal opportunities policy

Continued Professional Development

  • Take personal responsibility for your own continuous personal and professional development requirements to enable personal growth
  • Comply with the relevant training and record keeping requirements of the Solicitors Regulation Authority and to assist with in-house training as may be required.

Such other duties as may be assigned within the reasonable capabilities of a member of staff of equivalent experience, after full consultation

Specific responsibilities

Required KNOWLEDGE, qualifications, skills and experience


  • Completion of degree (2.1) or equivalent
  • Successful completion of LPC (for candidate applying for the training contract route)


  • At least two As at A-Level or equivalent
  • Knowledge and familiarity with MS Office suite

Knowledge and understanding of the Solicitors Regulation Authority Code of Conduct and other regulatory requirements


  • Ability to work independently and under pressure
  • Personal presentation and conduct befitting a professional services office
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Effective decision maker, taking timely sound decisions within parameters of own role and embracing innovative solutions to solve problems.
  • Good organisational skills, managing own workload to deliver quality work on a timely basis and to progress agreed objectives and measures of success
  • Demonstrates good teamwork, proactively contributing to the work of the whole team
  • Demonstrable research, analytical and drafting skills
  • Good commercial judgement and business management
  • Demonstrates good client focus by understanding and responding effectively to clients’ particular needs, objectives, priorities and constraints
