Parliamentary Agents

A Parliamentary Agent is an individual who can undertake the promotion of a private bill in the UK Parliament. Parliamentary Agents also conduct other work that requires knowledge of legislative and quasi-legislative procedures and drafting.

At Sharpe Pritchard we promote and oppose private bills in Parliament for public and corporate bodies, and also advise on Transport and Works Act Orders, harbour orders and the development consent regime under the Planning Act 2008. We advise on parliamentary procedure, we monitor legislation and we draft amendments to government bills.

Our work includes advising on planning, compulsory purchase and statutory interpretation.

We are ranked in both Chambers UK and the Legal 500 as a leading firm in their Parliamentary sections.

Recent work includes:

The promotion of Acts of Parliament for the London borough councils and TfL and the promotion of a number of recent Acts dealing with street trading and pedlars, promoting a Bill for a bank and acting for major land owners and local authorities in opposing the Crossrail Act. We are advising clients on the HS2 proposals and have recently promoted TWA and harbour orders for local authorities and harbour authorities.

We have consolidated our position as the leading firm for the promotion of private bills.
