Parliamentary Agents
A Parliamentary Agent is an individual who can undertake the promotion of a private bill in the UK Parliament. A private bill is legislation promoted usually by a local authority or other public body that when enacted provides powers that are not otherwise available under the general law. Parliamentary Agents also promote and oppose legislation when it is required to authorise the construction of transport infrastructure, including railways, tram schemes, ports and harbours. We are one of the very few firms who carry out the work of Parliamentary Agents.
Chambers UK 2008 ranks us as a leading firm in this field and quotes include "the firm maintains the highest standards in the work that it does."
Recent work includes:
The promotion of Acts of Parliament for the London borough councils and Tfl and the promotion of a number of recent acts dealing with street trading and pedlars, acting for major land owners and local authorities in opposing the Crossrail Bill and promoting and opposing harbour revision orders and Transport and Works Orders.
We have consolidated our position as the leading firm for the promotion of private bills, having deposited 7 of the 9 private bills in the 2007—2008 session.
