Construction

Sharpe Pritchard’s construction and engineering team provide clear, practical advice in relation to all aspects of construction and procurement law.

We act primarily for the public sector, from local authorities to central government and are therefore fully aware of the specific challenges that they face. We also act for developers, funders and consultants and are thus alive to the issues faced by all of the key players in the industry.

We advise on all manner of projects, with a particular focus on waste, energy and regeneration. We regularly advise on health and education projects, academies, leisure centres, FM contracts, new builds and refurbishments.

We have in-depth experience on all of the standard forms of construction and engineering contracts and provide our clients with focused, tailored advice to meet their particular needs. We also understand the crucial importance of ancillary documentation. We prepare and negotiate collateral warranties, third party rights schedules, security documentation (including parent company guarantees and bonds) and novation agreements. In addition, we are fully conversant with standard form consultant appointment documentation and also prepare bespoke forms for our clients.

Our lawyers are also procurement specialists. We advise on compliance with EU law, procurement routes and the relevant procedures under the Public Contracts Regulations, thus ensuring the most appropriate strategies are chosen for the successful delivery of our clients’ projects.

We have specialist lawyers who deal with contentious matters and we frequently advise and guide our clients through adjudications, mediations, ADR and, if necessary, litigation. With our unique mix of construction and procurement expertise, we are very well placed to deal with challenges arising under the Public Contracts Regulations and we do so on a regular basis.
