Technology and Construction Litigation
Ashley Badcock and Stephen Millen are the lead partners in advising on technology and construction disputes. Both are founder members by election of the Technology and Construction Solicitors' Association. Stephen Millen is qualified as an adjudicator.
Both Ashley and Stephen have considerable experience in dealing with complex technology and construction disputes both in the Technology and Construction Court and within the emerging alternative dispute resolution processes including mediation. Our practice has dealt with a number of large-scale adjudications under the Housing Act and complex mediations.
Judicial Review
While the application of judicial review is no longer confined exclusively to the public sector, it is of increasing importance to our public and local authority clients that their decisions can withstand scrutiny in the Courts.
Sharpe Pritchard has a national reputation for its Administrative Court practice, which is headed by Trevor Griffiths. We cover the full range of the activities of public bodies, particularly local and central government, and the firm has acted for over 90% of local authorities in their major challenges to government decisions. Typical of the judicial reviews and statutory appeals which we deal with are challenges to the decisions of central government, local authorities and planning inspectors.
Commercial and Property Litigation
Sharpe Pritchard has extensive experience of dealing with substantial commercial litigation including disputes relating to:
- sale/delivery of goods/services
- sale of land
- development of land agreements (joint ventures)
- commercial landlord and tenant disputes
- contested lease renewals under Part II of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954

Employment
Rosemary Sunter is the partner leading our employment practice. We represent employers and employees before tribunals and in the courts and advise on transfers of undertakings, on internal procedures and how employment disputes can most effectively be resolved. We draft terms and conditions of employment and service contracts and have wide experience of advising on all aspects of discrimination law.
Housing Litigation
We have developed a substantial practice in supporting public and social housing landlords in the management of their housing stock. Particular areas of expertise include landlord and tenant law as it applies to this sector and includes judicial review on housing matters, possession, claims for disrepair and squatters' cases.
We have developed strategies to handle the type of cases that many social landlords find difficult to undertake such as claims in nuisance, racial harassment and other forms of antisocial behaviour.
We deal with:
- possession cases, from straightforward large-volume arrears of rent cases to defended nuisance cases
- obtaining injunctions in the County Court
- advising on amendments to tenancy agreements
- debt recovery including business rates
- dilapidations claims and disrepair
- obtaining anti-social behaviour orders
Roy Richards is the main contact for housing litigation.
Agency
The firm undertakes agency work on behalf of other firms and solicitors across all our areas of practice, and our contact is Roy Richards.
Costs
Several solicitors in the litigation unit have particular expertise in costs. We prepare bills of costs for detailed assessment, handle the detailed assessment process itself, represent clients in hearings for cost judges and advise on settlements and enforcements.
