Litigation and Dispute Resolution

We are renowned for our litigation practice and act for public bodies in all courts and tribunals. We are regularly in the courts on judicial reviews, planning appeals, injunctions and licensing appeals, prosecuting in the magistrates' court and undertaking commercial, building dispute and landlord and tenant work. We are specialists in House of Lords and Privy Council work and act as Agents for other firms in the courts. We also have an experienced, effective and growing alternative dispute resolution practice.

The increase in public law challenges is evidenced by the expansion of the Administrative Court list. We have traditionally assisted public and local authorities in both commencing and defending judicial reviews, statutory reviews and appeals.

Chambers UK 2008 ranks us in the top tier for administrative law work and quotes include: "They're all just fabulous people because they help to put a case together" and "absolutely stunning and ahead of the pack for judicial review work."

Recent work includes:

A Court of Appeal case in which the basis of recovery of costs at the permission stage of judicial review action was confirmed.

A case in the Administrative Court in which the basis on which a statutory review could be struck out was defined.

Advising a local authority in making procedural arrangements so that it could, in effect, challenge its own decision.
